What is the purpose of a space suit?

The purpose of a space suit is to protect an astronaut whilst he or she is in space.
It provides conditions the body is used to as space is an alien environment which our body is not designed, and could not, cope with.
For instance, it ensures the air pressure is suchthat we can breathe, and this actually stops the blood literally boiling away through lack of pressure!
They also protect from radiation that would hit them as there is no atmosphere of the earth to protect them from space nasties.
