What is the surface of Saturn like?
Question asked by: knowitall
Saturn is the second largest planet after the total gas giant that is Jupiter.
It is also the second most dense.
It orbits the sun every 29.5 earth years, but its rotational period is only 10 - 11 hours.
It is mainly made of hydrogen and helium, and mainly it is liquid, and has a little rocky core at the centre - which has not been seen so therefore it is only inferred from the data.
The density of the planet is so low it is less than water - therefore, whilst this is a strange idea, if you could find a big enough quantity of water, the planet would float!
