What is the Turing Test?
Question asked by: knowitall
The Turing Test is a behavioural test of what it takes to be intelligent.
Broadly something is intelligent if it can fool a group of informed people that it is intelligent.
Thus the Turing Test for computers has been to convince humans that they are talking to a human and not a computer.
If a computer passes the test then on this definition it is intelligent.
Some have said that passing the test is necessary but not sufficient for understanding, whilst others have said it is neither necessary nor sufficient.
