What is VOIP?

Question asked by: knowitall

VoIP stands for Voice Over IP.

The thing is that might not make it any clearer what VOIP is to the uninitiated!

It is basically the ability of an IP network to have voice signals passed over that network, using a specific protocol.

In plain english, it is a way to make phone calls over the internet, and therefore is attractive to many because it means you don't need a phone to contact others and can often speak for free via this method!
