What killed the dinosaurs?

Question asked by: knowitall

Very controversial, and opinions change all the time as different theories go in and out of fashion. Once common idea is that a massive meteor crashed into the earth, and threw up dust that blocked the sunlight, limiting the amount of foods available and hence leading to the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Another theory is the volcano-greenhouse hypothesis, stating that gigantic volcanic activity on earth spew up gases which had the effect of warming the earth substantially and as a result the dinosaurs died out because it was too hot.
