What makes one actor a success and another a failure?

Lots of things and there is no doubt that luck plays a lot in it - for instance being in the right place at the right time.

And also what people are looking for at the time - for instance if Harry Potter hadn't come around just when it did then the likes of Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson would undoubtedly not have become rich and famous (or at the very least not to such an extent and so soon).

So it can be seen that luck is a big part.

Of course though talent plays a part and those who are really very good do tend to rise up the chain as it were to become top actors.
