What to do when office relationships go wrong?

When office relationships go wrong then it can be hard to recover, so you need to have some sort of exit strategy for the relationship.
The best of all is to have an amicable split and therefore to agree to be professional, to avoid each other, and not to gossip or backstab with colleagues who are hungry for gossip.
If the split is one sided or not amicable then you will just have to try and rise above it particularly if the other partner is being a bit vitriolic or even nasty about you: stiff upper lip and all that!
