When did people start wearing clothes?

I would imagine that people have worn clothes since time began (human time, anyway!) in order to keep themselves warm.
Originally clothing would have been based on animal skins and pelts which of course were fantastic for keeping people warm and would have gradually been adapted from that and become more ornate over time.
