Where can I get ideas and inspiration for writing music?

When it comes to writing music there are so many ways to get inspiration.
One thing that works for many is to lock themselves away in their study or similar and just think of experiences and moments from their life that evoked emotion in them.
You can also listen to other songs or watch films and read books and get ideas and inspiration from these.
Another source is your imagination and simply to think and dream up all sorts of weird and wonderful things.
There is inspiration in the world around you and part of the joy of being an artist is to use this and exploit it to create great songs and lyrics.
