Where is the southpole located?
Question asked by: knowitall

The south pole is actually quite a descriptive term, as the south pole is indeed at the most southerly point of the Earth. And as you know what the word pole means, that the name should give you a good indication.
With regard to the geographic South Pole, this is in the middle of the Antarctic ice sheet, at a hieght of 2800m. It is 1230 km from the nearest coast. It actually changes position each year as the ice sheet moves.
There is also a magnetic South Pole which is as at a different point.
