Which one should I choose?

It depends which of the two you prefer.
The cats make an easier first pet because apart from all the usual things such as ensuring they are fed and watered and taken to the vet and so on as required, they require little "maintenance".
This is because cats are quite independent pets and will go outside and do their own thing such as roam around the garden and kill all the little creatures like the fluffy little birdies and mice, even frogs and perhaps squirrels.
Dogs require more maintenance and most breeds will require regular walks and exercise are they are generally more needy pets.
Therefore it depends on how much effort you want to put in and also if you particularly prefer cats to dogs or vice versa.
