Which planet is known as the red planet?
Question asked by: mrquestion

The red planet is the name that is given to Mars and indeed on a clear night when it is bright you can see a red tinge to it.
The martian soil contains compounds that make it a dirty reddish colour in the main and so this is what makes it the red planet the composition of the soil.
Until recently it was thought there was surface water and even canals on the surface of Mars although it now appears that there is not surface water on Mars.
