Who should I pitch a television show idea to?

If you have an idea for a new format or type of show for the television then first of all you should post yourself the idea in a sealed envelope so if it gets copied you can prove it is yours.
Then approach production companies and see if you can get a meeting to pitch your idea to them, this is a numbers game and you might have to write to loads until you find one that might be interested.
