Why are assassins so-called?
Question asked by: knowitall
This is because this name was given in the 11th century to a sect of Shi'ite Muslim fanatics who pledged to murder those who did not believe in their religion. The word comes from hashishi, the drug they allegedly took to get ecstactic visions of paradise.
