Why are films called movies?
Question asked by: mrquestion
Asked on: 09 Apr 2008
Films are called movies for the simple reason that they used to be distinguished from still pictures with voiceovers.
Therefore they are literally 'moving pictures' or 'movies' which is a contraction of this.
