Why are most models female, not male?

This is an interesting question!
It just seems to be a fact that there is more call for female models and that therefore they are more around us, due to all the work they get.
Male models get less famous and earn less money.
Therefore if you want to be a famous model it seems that you have to be a woman - can anyone name a famous male model?
