Why are myCucumbers and green peppers maturing in odd shapes.

I grow vegetables in containers (thru necessity). About 1/3 of the cucumbers are short and shaped like a semi-circle. About the same % of the green peppers look as if they were made of clay and someone twisted them. In each case, they have proved good to eat. I would like to know what causes this and what I can do in the future to avoid this situation? Thanks.

I don't know much about gardening in the sense that I have never studied it.

However I have grown quite a lot of vegetables in the last few years and I think this is perfectly normal.

It is just when food is sent to the shops all the funny shapes and sizes are discarded so you never see them, but that is how they actually grow in nature in the wild.
