Why does my boyfriend act mean in front of his friends?

Peer pressure and trying to impress is the answer!
As a teenager it is seen to be cool to be cruel.
Not sure why but that is definitely what is true and being emotional or nice is seen as a sign of weakness rather than a quality to be admired.
