Why doesn't scoria float?

First you say why doesn't it float then you ask you need to know why it floats!
Well some will float and some won't - it all depends on the density of the material relative to water on the scale, whereby water is 1, and of course this depends on the formation of the scoria and how much air is trapped inside it.
