Why is carbon an element?
Question asked by: franji
Asked on: 24 Jun 2008

An element is defined as a basic chemical unit that cannot be broken down into anything else at the atomic level (obviously it has sub-atomic structure).
In other words if the atoms themselves are separated there is only one type of atom present and in carbon that is - you guessed it folks - carbon atoms.
