Why is cross pollination important in plant breeding?
Question asked by: knowitall
Cross pollination is important as it helps the plants vary themselves over time.
This mixes up the genes in a way akin to sexual reproduction, and therefore encourages diversity and allows for mutations to occur as well as the combinations of different qualities among plants.
Without pollination then all plants would have to self-reproduce or die.
