Why is Simon Cowell nasty to people?

The answer? Because he makes money from it!
The fact is he knows exactly why he is on tv and plays to it. It's the fact that he is nasty and cutting to people that makes him good TV and sets him aside from the hundreds of other people who could do that job on TV.
There is nothing tricky about commentinng on songs and certainly the money is not justified at all, therefore he uses his gimmick which is being rude and honest with people.
