Why is sudoku so popular?

Sudoku is so popular because it is a fun puzzle that does not require any particular talents to solve. Also it is easily graded into easy and hard and so on so there is something to suit those of every level.
Seeing a puzzle that is partly filled also appeals to the idea of just filling it in whereupon you get addicted.
It is also very easy to understand the rules so there are not lots of things that you have to keep in mind when solving it.
