Will an X-ray machine damage my photos?

With a digital camera it should not have an effect, and with most print films it will also not have an effect at normal strength as with an airport scanner, however if in any doubt check with the manufacturer if it is x-ray safe before taking it through an airport, it is certainly something that you do at your own risk!
