Bitchy friends? Here's how to deal with them

Particularly for girls it seems, some friends can be really bitchy and catty and not nice.

If you find out that a friend is bitching about you behind your back, then what can you do about it?

Well, the best thing to do is to confront the friend and explain that their behaviour is unacceptable, not attractive, and reflects badly on them. The fact is that most friends who are bitchy behind your back are really nice to it, so they will probably be embarrassed and it will be a wake up call.

And if that's all it takes, and sometimes it is, then great.

However if they have a bad attitude and don't deny bitching a bit or don't seem repentant or in fact laugh, then you should seriously consider ending your friendship with that person.

Now how about a friend that isn't so much bitchy as selfish, and only there when they need you. The classic case is the friend that only wants to do things with you when she is single or when her relationship is going wrong, but when times are good and she's seeing someone you never hear from them.

We all know someone like this and it can be really annoying.

What to do? Well the only way is to TELL them that you've noticed how they are acting and that you are not impressed. Say that your friendships are permanent not temporary so they either make time for you when they are with a partner OR you won't make time for them next time that they need you. This should be enough of a wake up call to get them to act a little better.

As per above if not, however, then you should consider whether that is really the sort of person that you want to be friends with as someone as selfish as that is not really the most useful sort of person to have as a friend after all!

Tricky one this. If you really want to keep them as friends then it is worth investing time educating them to their bad ways. If they are really bitchy then it might be best to move on and stop being friends with them.
