The fun logic puzzle...

Over the last year, a large spate of Japanese puzzles have become popular in the UK and across the rest of Europe and America.

The most popular of these is, no doubt, the smash hit sudoku. However this has been followed by a range of other puzzles: notably kakuro, hanjie and sudoku variants such as sudoku X and the rather sinisterly named Killer Sudoku. Equally lethal sounding is Samurai Sudoku.

One puzzle that you may not have heard of is Fillomino. This is also a number grid puzzle, but one interesting difference is that a Fillomino puzzle tends to be quicker to solve and is therefore ideal for those with a shorter attention span.

A completed fillomino puzzle looks a bit like this:

The aim of the puzzle is to fill the grid with numbers to form groups of cells, each of which contain the corresponding of cells to the number in each cell. Thus if you see a '5', that must be part of a group of 5 cells. You can see this clearly from this grid image.

The puzzle starts with only some cells filled, and therefore you must work out the shape of each block, to which block each cell belongs and number it accordingly. With cells that are blank, you must decide if they belong to a block already on the grid or a brand new block which needs to be numbered accordingly.
