How can I make some money from my website to provide additional income?

Answered by: Dan Moore, web design expert

There are many ways that you can make money from your website. The most obvious and traditional way is through selling a product or service.

However, if you have nothing to offer directly yourself you can participate in various other schemes to help make money.

One of the longest running affiliate scheme is run by Amazon.com and amazon.co.uk. You can place a huge variety of links to products at Amazon to your site, and take a commission on any sales.

Clearly, the more traffic you get the more sales and income you are likely to get.

You can also feature relevant listings from eBay by becoming an eBay affiliate. With regard affiliate schemes there are also many offered through smaller companies all of which give you a small percentage of any income you create for the owner of the affiliate scheme.

Another popular option is to feature Google adverts on your site, through the Google AdSense product. Here you get ads shown on your site pages that are automatically made relevant to those pages by Google themselves.

The good thing with most schemes is that they are easy to sign up for, require little coding skill as you simply copy and paste code, and therefore you can be up and running very quickly.

The best thing to do is try out each scheme for a month or two and see which works best for you.
