Yes ice cubes would melt in the sahara because it is really hot in the desert... any temperature above 0 degrees then ice will start to melt as it will absorb warmth from around it which will give the ice cubes the energy to melt.

Am I missing something but I can't see how this is ethics and philosophy question it sounds more like it is science to me?!

Solar energy, the sun got that energy due to this the water mollecules get heat energy and becoming liquid state after that liquid water get vapourize,due to the heat absorbed by the water mollecules than before.
