What's the most popular pet overall?

In my street most people seem to have a cat, then some have a dog, then one or two have rabbits or guinea pigs or fish and other things like that.

Does anyone know if there is any statistics as to what is the most popular pet overall?

My street is only small, but two people have a dogs and I have a cat and hamster, so, I suppose dogs are most popular in my street.

I have fish. and i think overall there the most easiest fish to keep.
they maybe not the most exciting but there relaxing. and you can leave them on there own when you go on holiday. i like fish and think there very easy pets.

I have a pond with two fish in. So I guess they are the winning pet so far! Cheap to buy and easy to look after, so definitely a low maintenance 'pet'!
