How does a bicycle tyre pump work?

It works by pumping air into the tyre, and this means that the pressure increases within the tyre. This pushes against the edge of the rubber and makes it hard.

The pump ensures that air can go in but not go out and then when it is sealed therefore the air is trapped at that higher pressure.
