What is a Luddite?

A Luddite has entered the vernacular as someone who is generically set in the past or mistrusts advancement and modern technology.

However historically it refers to a more focussed situation, to a group of people in the early 19th century who were against the automation of the power loom.

They often destroyed the equipment and the reason was that the machines had taken their jobs as it was cheaper, easier and quicker to use machines rather than people.
