What is a self-fulfilling prophecy?

A self fulfilling prophecy is where someone believes something so strongly that they actually make it come true.

For instance if you get it into your head that people hate you then you might make it become the case by changing how you act or being paranoid or losing confidence or similar.

Similarly, if you are convinced you will win a tournament then you can somehow really help your chances of making that happen.

A classic example could be Goran Ivanisevic winning Wimbledon at the end of his career as a non seeded player when no one gave him any chance of it.

The rain came at the right stage all the time and he just believed that God was on his side and that he was destined to win the title, and sure enough win it he did!
