Who was the greatest philosopher and why?

There is no answer to the question who was the greatest philosopher, although it is true that this is a very interesting question!

Why is there no answer?

Because this is a subjective matter.

The answer will depend on you, how many philosophers you are familiar with, and probably those that agree most with your own thoughts and viewpoints.

In terms of clear arguments many say that David Hume was a good philosopher though he had some claims that people would not be too proud of today!

Others that some have thought show genius were the likes of Wittgenstein whilst others find his whole philosophy misguided, incoherent and often a waste of space.
