How To Answer A Question Where You Are Unsure

Education : Exams And Revision

It happens to us all: despite all the work and revision, you will come to an exam and you will not be sure of the answer.

How to deal with it?

1 - If you have a gut instinct of what the answer is, but are not sure how you know, then just write it down anyway. Your gut answer is often correct.

Then come back at the end. If you have doubts, only change the answer if you are about 80% certain your initial answer was WRONG. There's nothing more annoying than changing from a correct to a wrong answer.

2 - If you are really not sure, but think you might be able to work out the answer, come back to it at the end of the exam.

When you come back to it, re-read it. Look for clues - have you missed anything? This may trigger something. If not then take an educated guess, even if you think there's only a 1% chance of being right. Writing nothing means a 0% chance of being right!

If totally unsure, then read the 'how to answer a question where you don't know the answer'
