Artistic Techniques - Chiaroscuro
Hobbies : Art This is a common technique that was experimented with many times during art history. Perhaps the most prevalent period was during the High Renaissance. This refers to the technique of paying special attention to light and dark, and highlighting dramatically the difference between these areas of painting. Figures emerge from darkness through decreasing shadow. The overall effect is that the figures seem to almost glow against a murky background. An understanding of Italian or Latin helps remember what the term means - with oscuro being dark.
