How To Avoid Crying When Chopping Onions

Food And Drink : Great Food Tips

You could dry chopping up onions with your food processor, but make sure they are not completely mashed up so dont leave them in there for very long.

Keep the onions in a fridge or place in a freezer a few minutes before cutting up. They produce fewer tears when they're colder.

Alternatively you could place it under a cold tap to wash away the irritants.

Avoid tears by slicing off the top and then peeling off the layers so the root is intact. The root end of the onion is the worst culprit for making you cry.

You could wear goggles as the air wont get to your eyes this way. Try breathing through your mouth as opposed to your nose.

Always wash hands thoroughly after chopping them and take regular breaks if needed.

Do multiple onions at a time so you can just store them away in an airtight container in the fridge and get them out later in the week so you dont have to go through the whole process all over again.
