Jobs : Job Profiles A cashier is still the most important role in banking. As the day to day face-to-face representation of the bank, to many people the cashier is the bank. They also tend to bear the brunt of immediate customer frustration, but can also receive praise on the occasions where it is deemed fit. It is a much needed role and therefore, numerically, there are a great deal of opportunities out there. Skills needed: - a reasonable ability with words and numbers, grade C maths and english at GCSE - ability to smile and be pleasant for long periods of time, and explain ideas and rules to customers clearly and efficiently - basic ability to use computers and terminals - attention to detail, concentration are key: one small mistake can have a big difference, particularly when giving out change, summing cheques and so on Starting salary is low, but career progression can occur and many cashiers rise to become managers in the future.
