How To Be Employable

Jobs : Job Search

To be employable these days means to be flexible in your approach and to have lots of transferable skills.

The hard technical skills of old are not a ticket for a job these days, and technical skills soon go out of date or are no longer required - or at least required less.

A technical knowledge of carpentry for instance won't get you many jobs these days when there is such little call for such work.

Therefore, you need to identify the key technical skills required by employers these days - what they are looking for in a portfolio.

Ensure that you have all the core skills required in the modern workplace - numeracy and literacy.

Make sure that you look for chances to upgrade these skills whilst in employment too, so that if the worst happens you can transfer elsewhere without too much heartache, hassle and difficulty.
