Carpenter

Jobs : Job Profiles

Very few people decide to go into this job, which in the past has been a stock trade for many.

As a carpenter, you work not just with wood but many construction materials. Projects can be from the small to the very big - bridges, boats and so on.

You will need to be physically fit and able. You need excellent basic hand eye and manual skills, and a sense of balance. You need to be able to interpret technical drawings and reproduce what you see on paper.

Attention to detail is therefore a must as is perserverance. Pride in the product is also a must.

Many carpenters learn on the job, so the best way may be to get an apprenticeship with an established carpenter and either build up from there and potentially even take over the business one day, or start your own.
