How To Choose A Scanner

Computing : Hardware

Scanners range in price from very cheap to very expensive.

For the vast majority of home uses, a cheap scanner will more than do the job, such has been the improvement in quality in recent years.

The key statistic to look for is called the resolution, measured in dots per inch (DPI).

This shows the number of pixels that the scanner can 'see'. There's no need for more than around 1200 dpi for standard scanning work. Remember, the bigger the number the bigger the image and the more disc space you will need.
