How To Choose Mascara

Beauty : Cosmetics

There are a few things to consider when choosing a mascara that's right for you. Remember, of course, that it is recommended that you buy a new one every three months, otherwise the mascara itself becomes dry and hard to apply, and it also begins to harbour germs at this stage so can be unhygienic.

For everyday wear, you are generally going to use either brown or black, black is a better colour for girls with dark hair while brown complements the colouring of lighter haired girls best. You can get different coloured mascaras but these tend to be more for going out and not for wearing to work. However, should you decide to try a coloured one, then you can experiment until you find the shade that suits you best.

There are also different kinds of brush on the market. Some are designed to apply mascara to all your lashes at once and may also open your eyes by curling the lashes as the mascara is applied. These brushes are normally curved, while the straight ones are useful for applying mascara to the corner lashes. Some brushes are also thicker than others and claim to volumise the lashes, but these specialist mascaras are more expensive that the ordinary ones, so it is up to you what kind you choose. Mascaras for people with sensitive eyes or those who wear contact lenses are also a bit more expensive, but worth paying the money for.

Some people might need a waterproof mascara, for example those who swim regularly or other athletes. Waterproof mascaras are harder to remove though, and you have to be careful to use a good makeup remover so that you do not scrub too hard at the delicate under eye skin.

Keep your mascara in good condition by avoiding pumping the brush in and out the tube - this dries it out quicker and can also induce more bacteria.
