Christmas Decorations - Their Origin

Christmas

It seems natural to decorate at Christmas as it shows it is a time of celebration and festivities.

However, until around 140 years ago it was just a case of candles and evergreens, there was none of the fancy stuff that we see around us today (of course flashing lights need to be around to exist but in general it was a much more austere event).

The Victorians developed things on a bit from just having plants and candles, and their love of the new technlogy meant that all sorts of decorations came into fashion.

They also started taking down the decorations on the twelfth night and hence the superstition that it is unlucky to leave the decorations up after the epiphany!
