How To Clean Out Your Wardrobe

Cleaning : Useful Cleaning Tips

This can be the most unappealing job in the world when you have been putting it off for a long time and it looks like it might explode soon, probably because you have just thrown more and more junk into the bottom of it and never bothered to look what was there in the first place! Sorting out old clothes can also seem like a hassle, but once you start you will feel a whole lot better. Give yourself a time limit of a few hours or an afternoon - don't try and get it all done in half an hour, as you will only become bad tempered when you pull everything out and then realise you have to sort through it as well!

Make sure you have a supply of refuse sacks, one for rubbish and one for clothes that you no longer want, but are in good condition - these can be taken to a charity shop. You might also want some storage boxes or containers of some sort for the floor and/or shelves of the wardrobe - this way you can categorise your junk and it will not all be thrown together in one messy pile.

A general rule for getting rid of unwanted clothing is that if you haven't worn it for a year or more, chances are you won't wear it again. Sometimes you feel a bit attached to some garments but if they really are just taking up space in your wardrobe then you have to be as ruthless as possible!

With other things like old bags, books, shoes, games - and whatever else you might find, determine whether you need them in the same way. Remember there is absolutely no point in keeping things that don't work. Stack games neatly in piles if you want to keep them, but items like these can also be passed onto charity if you won't use them again.

If you really can't bear to part with some items then either try and box them altogether and label the box accordingly, or at least get them out of the wardrobe and find another storage space for them. You can place other miscellaneous items in storage boxes too and keep them on the floor of the wardrobe, but make sure you label them carefully and also don't stack them too high so that they crush your clothes. Put the ones that you will need most access too on the top.

If you have to leave the cleaning halfway through, try and leave the room as tidy as possible so that when you come back you are not faced with a fight to get back into the room - you will never want to get back to it again if that's the case!
