Codes and ciphers do not try to disguise the actually encoded message.

This contrasts with steganography, which is actually the process of hiding some sort of data or information within something else.

For instance you could hide some text within a graphical image. That text may or may not be encrypted but the point is that you don't actually realise that it is there at all.

Therefore steganography and encipherment or encoding are two quite distinct processes.
