Computer Programmer
Jobs : Job Profiles As a computer programmer, you will be involved with coding, writing and de-bugging applications on a day to day basis. You will work both a brief of an application, and also require initiative to suggest how to do things, how to do things better, to streamline code and so on. You will need to be able to work on your own projects and on larger projects, also pick up code where others have left off. Therefore the key thing you need is a detailed knowledge of the language(s) in which you will be required to work. Therefore you will have at least a bachelors degree in your subject, but often even further qualifications than this. As a programmer, you must of course have superb general computing skills too. You have good analysis skills, attention to detail and patience to get programs to work. Good people skills are not essential but being able to communicate clearly is. You will also need to be comfortable with working in front of a computer screen for most of the day - something which does not appeal to many. Also concentrating on your own and working for extended periods on your own are also abilities that you must possess. For a good programmer, the demand for their skills will always be high, and there will be very good money on offer too. Top programmers can earn six figure salaries and even retire young!
