How To Cope With Leaving Home For University

Education : University

There is no doubt that the first day at university for those who have not really been away from home before is a stressful occurrance and leads to tears, nervousness and anxiety from many people. It is something that many of us have to do these days, though.

If you are going away and are nervous about how you will cope, then here are some tips for you:

- Be positive. Tell yourself that you can do it and will make friends and will get used to live away from home. After a few weeks the feelings should go so stick it out.

- Get busy and meet people. This is the real key. If you are busy and doing lots of things you just won't have the time to miss your nearest and dearest. Therefore throw yourself head first into university life.

- Don't have too much contact with friends and family. Don't call them more than once every couple of days at first, but rather just quick calls every now and then. This way you won't suddenly have thoughts about them flooding your mind and dragging you down.

- Arrange one visit in the first term, but don't get dependent on going home and returning too often.
