How To Copyright Your Ideas

Business : Running Your Business

It is not well known, but if you create intellectual works, then infact you will automatically hold the copyright on them for a large period of time - 70 years in the UK.

Things that you cannot claim copyright on include: slogans, names, titles - for these you will need to try and get a trademark (which is quite difficult to do).

Simply apply the copyright symbol to your work in the UK, followed by the year and your name.

An important caveat is for a business that employs contractors - unless you specifically agree otherwise, they hold the copyright over any material that they produce for you.
