Costume Consultant

A costume consultant, or designer, is in charge of the costumes for theatrical, TV or movie productions.

As such, you work out what is needed, and then ensure that the right items are in place for each member of the cast - often involving tailoring the outfits to the needs of each person.

As such you may need a decent historical knowledge, to know what the de rigeur items of the period are, and what each person of a particular social status would likely wear at a time - with Shakespeare and historical works particularly.

You will also need to manage a budget oftentimes and track all the costimes you have.

You need to be very creatively minded and have both a mental flare whilst also attention to detail.

You also need clear communication skills and have a friendly and upbeat manner around others. Many view the costumes and trying them out as something of a chore so you need to make the process as painless as possible.
