Court Reporter

Jobs : Job Profiles

Not an obvious job perhaps, but there is an ever increasing demand for this role with areas of the Western world, and most notably the USA, being obsessed with law suits seemingly!

A court reporter records word for word conversation, speeches and legal proceedings.

As such, specialist machines called stenotype machines will be used, which means combinations of letters rather than one individual letter can be pressed at a time.

Therefore this is a key skill, as is the ability to be accurate, work under pressure, and concentrate through some potentially very boring, tedious and long proceedings. This is essential as you must be accurate in what you report.

You will usually do a couple of years training before getting your job, and there are growth projections of up to 20 percent over the next few years.

On top of this, the salary is quite good - so competition may be quite stiff.
