Wear gloves when washing up or cleaning to protect your nails from further damage. Also do the same when gardening or doing DIY so you dont scrape the surfaces of them.

Wait for your nails to grow out, but in the mean time add some clear protective nail polish to strengthen them while you wait.

Never bite your nails. Always use scissors or clippers.

Use an emergy board to sort out the edges. Do this carefully and in one direction only otherwise you may make things worse. Use the buffer side to finish them off and add a shine.

Use hand moisturiser several times a day to stop your nails from going dry and brittle. Especially do this before bed then wear some night gloves to help them stay moisturised.

Vitamin supplments containing zinc, iron and B 12 may also help. Check with your doctor or local health store for more information. This should help put key nutrients back into your body and eventually improve the conditon of your skin, and hair as well as your nails.
